At Philocaly, we are all about keeping up with current trends, which is why we are so excited to jump on the hand-tied weft wagon! We are excited to get our valued customers all caught up on what they can expect from this new and trendy method!
What are hand-tied wefts?
Hair is individually hand-tied onto a hand-sewn weft by an experienced technician. This attention to detail ensures that hair is strongly secured and does not shed. Hand tied wefts are thinner, flatter, and more flexible than machine-tied wefts, allowing the hair extensions to lay closer to the scalp and provide a more natural look and feel.
Will Philocaly hand-tied wefts be comparable in quality to Philocaly tape-ins?
Absolutely! Philocaly only uses 100% Russian Remy, single donor, silicone-free, cuticle in-tact, human hair in all of our products.
How are Philocaly hand-tied wefts applied?
Your Philocaly verified stylist will create beaded rows and then proceed to weave Philocaly hand-tied wefts to the beads and subsequently your natural hair. Because beads are used, there are less points of contact with your natural hair than any other semi-permanent method on the market. Not only does this maintain the health of your hair but also results in ultimate comfort. You can expect application to take anywhere between 1.5 - 3 hours depending on how many wefts and rows are used.
How often do I need to have my hand-tied wefts tightened?
Similar to tape-in extensions, you will need tightening appointments every 6 to 8 weeks (dependant on how fast your hair grows). At these appointments your stylist will remove the extensions, reapply the same extension hair and touch up your cut for blending.
How much are Philocaly hand-tied wefts?
Philocaly hand-tied wefts are sold per weft (10" and 15 grams each). 8-12 wefts are recommended for a full application. We stock 18-20" and custom orders can be made for shorter and longer lengths.
Standard shades: $69 per weft
Ombré and highlighted shades: $82 per weft
How much can I expect to pay for application?
Because hand-tied wefts take more time to apply than tape-ins, you can expect to pay more for application with this method. A consultation is recommended with your Philocaly verified stylist to determine total costs. Expect to pay anywhere between $250 and $350 for installation, however prices vary by stylist.
What are the main differences between hand-tied wefts and tape-ins?
We are firm believers that no one method is perfect for everyone which is why it is important to have a thorough consultation with your Philocaly verified stylist to determine the best method for you! The main differences that you should be aware of are as follows:
Although Philocaly uses hypoallergenic glue on our tape-ins, it is still possible for people with extreme sensitivities to experience reactions. Hand-tied wefts use no adhesives making them an ideal method for those who are concerned or are prone to allergic reactions.
Both methods are completely damage free and a great option for fine and thin haired clients.
Because no adhesives are used with hand-tied wefts, you do not need to worry about specific products making your extensions slip and/or prematurely breaking down the tabs. Products with sulfate and conditioner usage directly on the tabs are an absolute no no with tape-in hair extensions.
Regardless how well you care for your tape-ins, over time (9-12 months) the tabs will eventually begin to break down. Philocaly hand tied extensions have a longer life span of 12+ months since no adhesives are used.
Hand-tied wefts take longer to apply than tape-in extensions which results in more time in your stylists chair and more of an investment for application.
If top knots, ponytails and certain hairstyles are important to you, hand-tied wefts could be a better option as they are easier to conceal when wearing your hair up!
