As a hairstylist, what are the key factors you consider when choosing a wedding hairstyle for a bride?
As a bridal stylist, the key factors I'd consider when choosing a wedding hairstyle are; comfortability, weather, and dress style.
When deciding on a style, my top tip is to choose something that is not only physically comfortable but also a style that makes you feel the most confident and like yourself. For example, if you never wear your hair up, maybe consider something half up or down. Photos are taken all day, so you want to feel the most confident on your big day!
The second thing to consider is the weather. If you know your hair doesn't hold a curl, it's quite humid or windy, you may want to think about doing an updo to ensure your style lasts all night.
My last key factor is dress style. Think about what the biggest wow factor is for you. If you love the detail of the back, or maybe your dress is high neck, you may want to wear it up, or if your dress is strapless, you can really get away with anything!
How do you ensure that the wedding hairstyle complements the bride's overall wedding look, including the dress, makeup, and theme?
I think when choosing a style to complement the dress and theme, I like to have my brides bring up photos that they love and go from there.
With more detailed or boho dresses, I love to incorporate braids or twists, whereas, for more simple and classic dresses, I love doing a more sleek bun or glam waves.
Can you suggest any hairstyles that work particularly well with Philocaly hair extensions for brides who want to create a more voluminous or intricate look?
Hairstyles that work well with Philocaly hair extensions are pretty much endless. They can help your curls to last longer and your up styles to look fuller.
I could add Philocaly hair extensions to pretty much every client and have it be beneficial by levelling up their overall look!
How far in advance should a bride get Philocaly hair extensions installed before her wedding day?
If you want a semi-permanent extensions for your wedding, I recommend getting them installed 1-2 weeks before your big day. This ensures that nothing is too tight, and you feel super comfortable all day long!
How can Philocaly hair extensions complement bridal looks overall?
Philocaly hair extensions are super helpful when it comes to bridal styling in so many ways.
I recommend doing a consultation with your stylist to see if extensions would be beneficial in helping you achieve your dream bridal hair!
If you aren't interested in semi-permanent extensions, Philocaly clip-in extensions are an amazing option as well.
Philocaly extensions can help your hair if it doesn't hold a curl, add coverage if areas are too sparse, make twists and braids appear more voluminous, add dimension to your colour, add length to achieve your goal, etc.
Can you share any insider tips or tricks for achieving a long-lasting and flawless wedding hairstyle?
My tips for a long-lasting style would be to use texture sprays or waxes and creams when forming your style and to not use hairspray until the end to prevent any frizz and then finish with a humidity spray.
I also love to tease the base to allow my pins to have something to grip on too.
It's also so important to communicate with your client throughout their style, asking them if it's feeling secure, getting them to shake their head a bit, and letting them know if anything is uncomfortable because if it hurts now, it's going to hurt way more later.
Are there any current trends or popular wedding hairstyles that you recommend to brides?
When picking a style in 2023, I feel like anything goes nowadays.
There's lots of variety in the industry currently, which I love!
A couple new trends that have come into play are the midi/high buns that you see celebs such as Kim Kardashian wearing, as well as a classic ponytail. Both styles can be tweaked to be however you want, from more undone to a sleek look.
What hair care routine would you recommend for brides leading up to their wedding day to ensure their hair is in its best condition?
As a 2024 bride myself, hair care has been so important to me lately.
My best advice, if you're trying to get your hair in its best condition, is to prioritize hydration!
I love to use a hydrating or repairing shampoo and conditioner, a leave-in conditioner, and an oil every time I wash my hair. Using a deep treatment every 2-3 weeks is also key when you're trying to boost hydration in your hair! Limiting heat styling and using heat protectant every time is so important.
Lastly, if you're trying to grow your hair out, my best advice would be to get regular trims! I know it sucks, but if you don't keep your ends cleaned up, they will break instead!
