There is nothing wrong with wanting fabulous hair. However, it is important to be conscious of the environmental and social impacts of such purchases. Philocaly Hair believes it is important to support brands that share your values and to be mindful of the impact your money is making. Human hair extensions were once only attainable for the rich and famous, but they have now become an accessory for the modern day woman. In a booming global market, the big business of hair extensions has created an equaling booming black market. Without proper regulation, it is impossible to know whether hair has been donated, sold or stolen. Doing business in a sustainable and fair way is consistent with our quality and innovation principle. Every strand of Philocaly Hair extensions have been donated willingly with the full consent of the donor and donors are given a fair and reasonable price for their hair.
How is Philocaly Different?
Our hair comes from a single donor
Did you know that some hair extension companies market their hair as Remy, when in reality it is far from? Many vendors will gather fallen hair (Hair collected from hair combs or brushes or the floor) from salons and temples. This hair is then sent to factories to have an acid bath to remove the cuticle and then bound together with silicone and marketed as Remy hair. Since the cuticle helps keep hair healthy and shiny, this process of removing the cuticle creates lifeless and tangled hair. Dishonest manufacturers are aware of this and therefore implement silicone into their process to disguise a poor quality product. Silicone helps make the hair appear healthy when in reality it is quite the opposite. Our hair is guaranteed to come from a single donor. Our donors willingly have their ponytail cut off for a fair wage. Due to this, the cuticle in our hair is intact and perfectly flawless.
Our donors willingly sell their hair
As mentioned, the hair extension industry is under regulated and full of lies. Not only is hair mistreated, but humans are too. Crimes such as kidnapping women and children for their hair and stealing hair off of dead bodies is not an uncommon practice. If this doesn’t scare you away from buying cheap hair off of Ebay or Amazon, we don’t know what will. Our donors willingly sell their hair in order to feed their families and make an income. Although, this may be controversial, it is important to know that our donors make this decision and they are not forced in any way. Our donors are paid a fair wage.
We are completely transparent
One of the biggest problems in the hair extension industry is dishonesty. Can you find one company online that markets their extensions as non-remy? We doubt it. The industry is so unregulated, that everyone can market their hair extensions as Remy. Why do companies do this? The easy answer is to make higher profit margins. Our hair is 100% real Remy hair. How can you tell? The truth is in our quality. Our hair will feel exactly like your own hair and last for 8-12 months to over a year with proper care.
Conduct the Philocaly Hair feel test to see for yourself! Run your fingers up and down the hair shaft. The hair strand should feel smooth going downwards towards the direction of hair growth, however you should feel some resistance as you move your fingers in the opposite direction. This resistance signifies the cuticle is present and has not been stripped.
Our factory employees are treated fairly
Our factory employees are treated well. Our factories employees do not work over 8 hours, receive breaks and are paid a fair wage.
Does this make you feel differently about hair extensions? We hope so. Remember, not all hair extensions are created equally. Just like anything you buy, it is important to know the social impact of your purchases. Remember, that you as a consumer control the industry. Every time you choose to support ethically sourced extensions and say no to unethical ones you help put a stop to this market of exploitation.
