New To Weft Hair Extensions? Here’s Everything You Need To Know!
Dec 18, 2022
As much as we'd like to wish for every woman in the world to have long, gorgeous locks they'll be confident with, not everyone can grow their hair to the length they'd like. This can be due to various reasons, including genetics, age, hormones, or even lifestyle — all of which are difficult to battle but not totally impossible!
But thanks to the art of hair extensions, advanced styling techniques, and amazing hairstylists like you, everyone can achieve the mermaid-like volume they want without having to wait out the growth or rely on chemicals to get the job done. Additionally, hair extensions come in many types and can be applied in several ways, making them an excellent option for anyone who wants to try something new and exciting. In fact, some extensions can be applied in a matter of minutes (hello clip-in extensions), while others who wish to make a statement may need to sit through a couple of hours.
Basically, it all boils down to your client's commitment to the look they are going after for.
The moment a client books a consultation with you, it's your role to give them all the facts they need to make an informed decision about their crowning glory. This means that you also need to recommend whatever type of extension you feel would be best for their desired look. The first order of business? Discuss the type of hair extension that is suitable for the client. Wefts are among the most popular options on the market due to their ability to work with most clients' hair types. However, it is important to ensure you are choosing the correct weft option for your client's hair.
What Are Weft Hair Extensions?
As soon as you start your hair extension journey, you’ll want to become familiar with what a weft is. A weft refers to a collection of hair strands attached to a thin base material that can be woven into the natural hair to create fuller, longer locks. Yep! No adhesives, glue, or clips needed! The only thing that makes each weft different is the type of attachment used. For instance, you can choose from flat wefts, hand-tied wefts, and genius wefts. Also, there are different ways to install a weft. We currently offer two different methods of application (our OG beaded row method and our Flip-up Method) with a third method launching in 2023!
Due to their practical design and easy installation, weft extensions are the most popular type of extension available on the market today. In fact, even top stylists recommend them because of
their unmatched versatility, as they can be removed and reapplied without causing damage to the client's own strands.
Types Of Weft Hair Extensions
The world of hair extensions is growing bigger each day, and so are the options available to you and your clients. To help you cut through the noise, we'll walk you through the three best types of weft hair extensions you should consider for your clients.
Hand-Tied Weft Extensions
Best for clients with finer locks and those aiming to get an almost undetectable look!
Unlike other extensions, hand-tied weft extensions remain the most popular ones among ladies on Instagram because of their unique thinness! Since they are lighter than flat wefts and genius wefts, hand-tied wefts tend to be easier to conceal as they lie flat to your head which is why lots of our customers with fine hair really love them. They are guaranteed to blend in easily with the existing hair strands and give your client a natural-looking result when installed using our installation techniques. If you want your clients to look Pinterest-worthy, hand-tied weft extensions are the best option!
But before you recommend hand-tied hair extensions, there are two things that you need to consider. First, give your client an appropriate quote for the hand-tied wefts and explain the installation process. Depending on the number of packs to be installed, the bill can easily add up to hundreds or thousands of dollars since this type is pricier than the others! To ensure that there will be no surprises on the installation day, we highly recommend thoroughly discussing the cost or suggesting other budget-friendly alternatives, such as our flat weft or genius weft, that'll have an almost similar effect.
Second, check if the client has a sensitive scalp or skin conditions that return hairs can aggravate. Return hairs refer to the short strands near the top part of the weft. For some, this may be a minor inconvenience, but others may experience an irritation that can be frustrating to deal with in the long run. Hand-tied extensions can not be constructed without return hair. If this is a deal-breaker for your clients' sensitive scalps, we would recommend looking at genius wefts as the best alternative.
Flat Weft Extensions
Best for clients with thicker, coarser locks and those who want volume. Ooh la la!
When it comes to clients who currently already have medium to thick hair and want a budget-friendly weft and the ultimate result, nothing beats flat weft extensions. Flat wefts are known to be the most practical type of extension since they are more affordable and can also be
cut to size, and have no return hair. Unlike hand-tied wefts, which can not be cut, flat wefts can. This makes them more customizable and installs a slightly easier process (no folding required here). Whether your client is wanting to rock longer hair for thatbeachy goddess look or simply add dimension or body, flat weft extensions are a great option for your client!
Genius Weft Extensions
Best for clients who want to focus on thickness and length!
A genius weft is incredibly thin, flat, and light, making it a close runner-up to the hand-tied weft for comfortability. This flexible weft can be cut for unlimited customization. The genius weft features no return hair to ensure no scalp irritation, matting at the root, or shedding. The Genius Weft is a great alternative to our Hand Tied and Flat Wefts while perfectly blending the best qualities of both. Stack up to 8 on one row and use with almost all hair types. This is the Hand Tied + Flat Weft reimagined, and we know you will love them!
